Gender Discrimination

Introduction

Gender discrimination is an issue which has been debated for many decade. Gender discrimination or in other words gender inequality is any unequal treatment, including privilege and priority on the basis of gender. Gender equality is a fundamental human right which has been violated by gender based discrimination.

I truly believe when gender discrimination is taken into consideration it becomes a fight for both men and women. Men are equally as affected by the stereotype and their struggle are often neglected. Girls and boys face unequal gender norms regarding expectations and access to resources and opportunity, with lifelong consequences. For example, the world’s boys are often encouraged to go to school and get an education to prepare for work, while girls carry heavy household responsibilities that keep them away from school. In India, the constitution has granted men and women equal rights, but gender disparity still remains.

Cause of Gender Discrimination

I truly believe when gender discrimination is taken into consideration it becomes a fight for both men and women. Men are equally as affected by the stereotype and their struggle are often neglected. Girls and boys face unequal gender norms regarding expectations and access to resources and opportunity, with lifelong consequences. For example, the world’s boys are often encouraged to go to school and get an education to prepare for work, while girls carry heavy household responsibilities that keep them away from school. In India, the constitution has granted men and women equal rights, but gender disparity still remains.

Gender Equality

Gender equality is good for everyone, including men. According to most studies the most gender equal countries are the happier countries. It is also good for business as it raises production and job satisfaction.

Gender equality is not just about women. When a couple has children, it is not only women who becomes mother, but its men too who becomes father. In fact they both become parents. In most of the companies, there are parental leave for mother and not for father. For example in large companies of UK large companies give mother six months of paid parental leave while father is only recognized for two weeks. Thus discriminating against men. Our societies mentality is so weird regarding men and women. Sometimes they favor men and sometimes they favor women. For example, when a boy slaps a girl, mostly people think its boy’s  fault and he is misbehaving with girl and when a girl slaps a boy then also people think its boy’s fault only. When a boy flirts with a girl in public then also people judge a girl that it’s her fault, she should stay at home. Each and every persons mind set is really different on men and women discrimination.

Conclusion

Gender discrimination should be checked at every stage so that no person should be denied a chance to learn and grow. Everyone, no matter male or female must get a start in a life in term of education and other opportunities. We must come together as a society to do this.
